Meet Daniel Ross

The author behind Rangers on Patrol — and the heart behind Ranger Roger’s adventures.

Introduction

Daniel Ross is a children’s book author whose stories are rooted in real days spent exploring the Australian bush with the people he loves most. Through the Ranger Roger series, he invites young readers into the same wide, wild world that has brought him so much joy.

About Author

From the Australian Bush to the Page

By day, Daniel works as both a nurse and a trainer — roles he genuinely enjoys. But when the work week winds down, he heads outdoors. There’s nothing he loves more than long walks through the bush, surrounded by gum trees, native shrubs, and the wildlife that calls them home — possums, kangaroos, emus, and everything in between.

That love of the outdoors became the seed of Ranger Roger. Thingummyjig Nature Reserve, where Roger’s adventures unfold, is loosely inspired by the very real Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the ACT, and the many other reserves Daniel has explored across Australia — often with his two sons, Oliver and Paul, by his side. The boys loved discovering the bush together, and the magic of those days is woven into every page of Roger’s story.

What He Writes

Stories Rooted in Real Wonder

Daniel writes gentle adventures for curious young readers — stories that celebrate Australia’s wild places, the animals that live there, and the everyday courage it takes to care for the world around us. His books are written for children who love to explore, and for the grown-ups who love exploring with them.

Step Into Roger's World

Every story Daniel writes begins somewhere real — a quiet bushwalk, a moment with his boys, a glimpse of wildlife among the gum trees. The Ranger Roger series invites young readers into those same wild Australian landscapes, where courage, kindness, and curiosity shape every adventure.

Whether you’re sharing a bedtime story, reading along in the classroom, or searching for a meaningful gift, there’s a story here waiting for you.
